Whether you’re travelling from Manchester Piccadilly, Liverpool Lime Street, Preston or Edinburgh, you can book cheap train tickets to Manchester Airport with TransPennine Express.
Direct trains to Manchester Airport are available from over 100 destinations (including Leeds, Sheffield, York, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Preston) and operate almost 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Trains to and from Manchester Piccadilly take just 20 minutes, with 6 trains an hour. Piccadilly is a great transport hub itself with train connections to other parts of the UK, including Liverpool, Leeds, Edinburgh and Newcastle.
On arrival at the train station follow signs to the terminal buildings. Lifts, escalators and moving walkways are provided.
Terminal 1 (T1): approx 5-minute walk
Terminal 2 (T2): approx 10-minute walk
Terminal 3 (T3): approx 12-minute walk.
A regular shuttle bus operates from outside the train station and the arrivals hall of Terminal 3.
On arrival at the airport follow signs to the Manchester Airport station. Lifts, escalators and moving walkways are provided. Self service ticket machines are available within the baggage reclaim areas if you haven't already purchased your train tickets.
The first train from Manchester Airport to Manchester Piccadilly leaves at around 04:20 with the final train departing at around 01:30. The first direct train from Manchester Airport to Liverpool Lime Street leaves at 04:20 with the last leaving at 22:48. If you’re travelling to Manchester Airport from Manchester Piccadilly, you can hop on a train and be at the airport in just 20 minutes. There are also 6 trains an hour. A tram ride from the city centre to the airport will take much longer at around 50 minutes. Getting a taxi from the centre of Manchester to Manchester Airport will also be much more expensive at around £45 – this will of course depend on the time of day you travel.
Manchester Airport is a major international airport and the second largest in the UK. You’ll find all the amenities and facilities you’d expect from an international travel hub, whether shopping or food and drink. The newly refurbished Terminal 2 is home to many fantastic shops, restaurants and bars to enjoy before you fly.
Train tickets can be purchased in advance, from the self service ticket machines within the airport's baggage reclaim areas or from the ticket office at the train station. Pre-booked tickets can also be collected from the self service ticket machines. The ticket office within the train station provides information on all onward train journeys and tickets.
If you’re travelling to Manchester Airport by train and then staying overnight or you’re planning a night in a hotel at Manchester Airport on your way home, you’ll find plenty of choice. The Radisson Blue Manchester Airport is just a 5 minute walk from the train station and has easy access to all three terminals via the Skylink walkway. The Clayton Hotel is 350 yards from both Terminals 1 and 3, whilst the DoubleTree by Hilton is a short walk or a 5-minute drive. Other options close by include the Holiday Inn Manchester Airport and Ibis Budget Manchester Airport.
