A Season ticket allows unlimited travel in both directions between two specific stations. You can get a weekly, monthly, annual or even a custom Season ticket.
If you travel regularly (3 or more days) along the same route, getting a Season ticket will save you time and money on your train tickets.

First things first! If you’re buying a Season ticket for the first time, you’ll need a Smartcard.
You can order one for free from your TransPennine Express online account - it’ll arrive in about five days. Or, pick up a free Smartcard at the station and register it to your account.

Once you've got your Smartcard you can buy your Season ticket on the TPExpress app, online, at the ticket machine or at a ticket office. You can buy your Season ticket with cash, most credit or debit cards, rail travel vouchers or a Rail Warrant issued by your employer.

The cost of a season ticket will vary according to the two stations that you are travelling between and the length of time of your season ticket. You can choose a weekly Season ticket, a monthly Season ticket, an annual ticket or a custom ticket for any period between one and 12 months. The price for each will be calculated in line with your chosen route.

If you travel regularly along the same route, buying a Season ticket rather than purchasing an Anytime Day Return ticket each day you travel will save you money. For example if you buy a 12-month Season ticket you will get 52 weeks’ travel but you’ll only pay for 40 weeks.
A Season ticket – whether it's a weekly, monthly or annual ticket – starts from the day you buy the ticket.
To get the most out of your Season ticket and the best value train travel, you should buy a Season ticket just before you travel. So, for a weekly Season ticket, book your ticket on the first day you want to use it. Remember a weekly ticket lasts for a full seven days as opposed to a calendar week.
Once your ticket has run out, you can renew your Season ticket online or via the TPExpress app.
You can buy a season ticket with us online on our website or via the TPExpress app. They are also available from the ticket office or ticket machines at our stations.
You can only use your TransPennine Express Season ticket on our trains and along the route you chose when you bought your Season ticket.
Yes, Season tickets are available as e-tickets – you can download them to your phone’s wallet making it simple and easy to use every time you need to travel.
Yes a Season ticket can be refunded, with the refund calculated from the day the ticket is surrendered. There is however, a minimum period of remaining validity for a refund to be issued, specifically 3 days of validity for a 7-day season ticket, 1 week for a monthly and 1 month and 18 days for an annual Season ticket.
If you bought your ticket online, you can apply for a refund online, and if you bought it in person at the station you will need to go back to the same station for your refund.

There isn’t a specific season ticket for students, however, students can save up to 1/3 on train travel with a 16-25 Railcard. If you use it to book Advance Purchase Tickets direct with us, you can save 50%* on your ticket.
For children aged 11-15, we also have Education Season Tickets.
You can’t use a Railcard – such as a 16-25 Railcard – to buy a Season ticket. When you purchase a Season ticket, you will already enjoy discounted train travel.

Season Tickets are usually available for periods of 7 days or for any period from 1 month to 1 year
Season Tickets offer great savings if you make regular train ticket bookings, even if you’re travelling fewer than 5 days a week. An Annual Season ticket offers 52 weeks' travel for the price of 40 already-discounted Weekly Season Tickets
If the Season Ticket held does not cover the journey in full, has been left at home or is for Standard Class accommodation when travelling in First Class, the appropriate additional ticket must be purchased at the ticket office before travel
Season Ticket holders' names and addresses are recorded. You may be contacted for survey purposes about the journeys you make with your Season Ticket
If you’re buying a Season Ticket for the first time, a recent passport-type photograph for the accompanying photocard is required
In addition, if you are buying a monthly or longer Season Ticket for the first time, an application form will need to be completed so that a Record Card can be held by the issuing Train Company
PTE Season Tickets including Metrocards and TfGM Country Cards are not eligible for free First Class weekend upgrades
It is not possible to make a seat reservation with a Season Ticket on TransPennine Express services
