Between Manchester, Huddersfield and Leeds: Saturday 4 January

Network Rail is carrying out major improvement works between Manchester and Leeds on Saturday 4 January, as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade.

Train services will be diverted between Dewsbury and Manchester Victoria. Services may be running to an amended timetable, meaning journey time may be extended. Further details on the changes to services can be found below.

RAIL SERVICES

Liverpool Lime Street – Newcastle.

This service will use a diversionary route between Manchester Victoria and Dewsbury (via the Calder Valley), increasing journey times and running to an amended timetable. Services will not call at Huddersfield but will call additionally at Lea Green and Brighouse; a bus replacement service will be in operation for travel between Brighouse and Huddersfield (see details below).

Manchester Airport - Redcar Central

This service will be running to an amended timetable and start/terminate at Manchester Victoria instead of Manchester Airport; it will also divert between Manchester Victoria and Dewsbury (via the Calder Valley), increasing journey times.

This service will not be calling at Huddersfield but will be calling additionally at Brighouse; a bus replacement service will be in place for travel between Huddersfield and Brighouse (see details below). This service will additionally stop at Ravensthorpe and Cottingley every two hours.

Liverpool Lime Street – Hull

This service will only run between Leeds and Hull. Change at Leeds for onward travel.

Manchester Victoria - Scarborough

This service will only run between York and Scarborough. Change at York for onward travel.

Leeds - Huddersfield (local stopping, every two hours)

This service will not run. Customers should travel on Northern services between Leeds – Wigan/Leeds – Bradford Interchange via Dewsbury.

Manchester Piccadilly - York via Wakefield Kirkgate: This service will be split and run between Manchester - Stalybridge (hourly), along with Wakefield Kirkgate - York via Castleford (hourly).

BUS SERVICES

Huddersfield – Stockport – Manchester Airport

A bus replacement will be running hourly in both directions. Estimated total journey time: 80 minutes.

Huddersfield – Stalybridge

A bus replacement will be running express in both directions, up to every 30 minutes. Estimated total journey time: 50 minutes.

Huddersfield – Slaithwaite – Marsden – Greenfield – Mossley - Stalybridge

A bus replacement service will be running every 30 minutes in both directions. Estimated total journey time: 65 minutes.

Huddersfield – Brighouse (extends to Halifax hourly)

A bus replacement service will be running every 15 minutes in both directions with one service an hour extending through to Halifax. Estimated total journey time: 35 minutes.

Huddersfield – Deighton – Mirfield – Dewsbury – Wakefield Kirkgate

A bus replacement service will be running hourly in both directions. Estimated total journey time: 60 minutes.

Between Manchester, Leeds and York: Sunday 5 January

Network Rail is carrying out major improvement works on weekends between Manchester, Leeds and York on Sunday 5 January, as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade.

Train services will be diverted between Leeds – York/Leeds – Selby, as well as diverted between Dewsbury and Manchester Victoria and may be running to an amended timetable, meaning journey time may be extended. Further details on the changes to services can be found below.

RAIL SERVICES

Liverpool Lime Street - Newcastle

Services from Liverpool will run to Redcar Central instead of Newcastle. This service will also use a diversionary route between Leeds and York (via Castleford), as well as between Dewsbury and Manchester Victoria (via Calder Valley), not calling at Huddersfield but calling additionally at Brighouse, increasing journey time and running to an amended timetable.

A bus replacement will be in place for travel between Huddersfield and Brighouse (see details below).

Manchester Airport - Redcar Central

Services from Manchester Airport will run to Newcastle instead of Redcar Central. This service will also divert between Leeds and York (via Castleford), as well as between Dewsbury and Manchester Victoria, increasing journey times and running to an amended timetable.

This service will not be calling at Huddersfield but will be calling additionally at Brighouse; a bus replacement will be in place for travel between Huddersfield and Brighouse (see details below). Rail replacement buses will run hourly between Huddersfield and Manchester Airport via Stockport (see details below).

Liverpool Lime Street - Hull

This service will run every two hours between Leeds and Hull only and will use a diversionary route between Leeds and Selby (via Castleford). Change at Leeds for onward travel.

Manchester Victoria – Scarborough

This service will only run between York and Scarborough. Change at York for onward travel.

Leeds - Huddersfield (local stopping, every two hours)

This service will not run. Customers should travel on Northern services between Leeds – Halifax/Bradford Interchange via Dewsbury.

Manchester Piccadilly - York via Wakefield Kirkgate

This service will be split and run in both directions between Manchester - Stalybridge hourly, along with Wakefield Kirkgate - York via Castleford hourly.

Train services will be diverted between Leeds – York/Leeds - Selby until 12:00, as well as diverted between Dewsbury and Manchester Victoria. Services may be running to an amended timetable, meaning journey time may be extended. Further details on the changes to services can be found below.

RAIL SERVICES

Liverpool Lime Street - Newcastle

This service will start and terminate at York instead of Newcastle. A bus replacement will be running in both directions between York and Newcastle (see below for details). It will also use a diversionary route between Leeds and York (via Castleford) until 12:00, as well as between Dewsbury and Manchester Victoria (via Calder Valley) all day, increasing journey times and running to an amended timetable.

All day: This service will not be calling at Huddersfield but will be calling at Brighouse and Lea Green instead. A bus replacement service will be in operation for travel between Huddersfield and Brighouse (see below for details).

Manchester Airport - Redcar Central

This service will also divert between Leeds and York (via Castleford) until 12:00, as well as between Dewsbury and Manchester Victoria all day, increasing journey times and running to an amended timetable.

This service will only run between York and Scarborough only. Change at York for onward travel.

Leeds - Huddersfield (local stopping, every two hours)

This service will not run. Customers should travel on Northern services between Leeds – Bradford Interchange via Dewsbury.

Manchester Piccadilly - York via Wakefield Kirkgate

Manchester Piccadilly - York via Wakefield Kirkgate

This service run between Manchester and Huddersfield until 12:00. After 12:00, an hourly service will run between Manchester Piccadilly and York.

Engineering work is taking place between Leeds and York, closing all lines and blocking some access to train depots on Saturday and Sunday.
CrossCountry:
Friday to Sunday:
On Friday, CrossCountry will operate early morning buses between Leeds and York.
CrossCountry services will not run between Leeds and York. These trains will be diverted to run on alternative routes.
Most trains will not call at Leeds or Wakefield Westgate, you should use alternative train services to complete your journey.
LNER:
Saturday and Sunday:
An amended service will operate, some trains will not run or will start / terminate at stations different from normally advertised. You can find more information on this page.
Northern:
Friday to Sunday:
No trains will run via Micklefield.
Trains between Blackpool North and York will run between Blackpool North and Leeds only.
Trains between Halifax and Hull will run between Halifax and Leeds only.
Replacement bus services will run between Leeds and York, and between Leeds and Selby.
TransPennine Express:
Friday to Sunday:
An hourly train service will run between:
- Liverpool Lime Street and Newcastle

Additionally, until approximately 12:00 on Sunday, trains which normally run between Manchester Piccadilly and York via Wakefield Kirkgate will run between Manchester Piccadilly and Huddersfield only.

Engineering work is taking place between Wakefield Westgate and Wakefield Kirkgate / Normanton, closing various lines before 11:40.
Before 11:40:
Grand Central:
The 08:04 Bradford Interchange to London Kings Cross service will be retimed to start at 08:10, and will be diverted to call at Wakefield Westgate, not calling at Low Moor, Halifax, Brighouse, Mirfield or Wakefield Kirkgate.
Replacement buses will run between Low Moor and Wakefield Westgate via Halifax, Brighouse and Mirfield to connect with the train.
Northern:
Trains that usually run between Leeds and Knottingley via Wakefield Westgate will be diverted to run via Castleford, and will not call at Wakefield Westgate, Wakefield Kirkgate, Streethouse, Featherstone or Pontefract Tanshelf.
Buses will run between:
- Leeds and Pontefract Monkhill

TransPennine Express:
