You can book any First Class ticket either on our website or via our mobile app and there are some tips and tricks to grab a cheaper First Class ticket:
Advance Purchase: If you book your First Class ticket in advance, you could save over 50%!
Weekend First (on-the-day upgrade): Travelling at the weekend and fancy upgrading your ticket? Depending on how far you're travelling, it'll cost between £10-£25 per person to upgrade your ticket one way. Just find an unreserved seat in First Class and pay the conductor for your upgrade! This offer is only available on Saturdays, Sundays and on Bank Holidays and is subject to availability. Spaces are limited and there are no child or Railcard discounts available.
Seatfrog Bidding: Use the Seatfrog app to bid for a last-minute upgrade. Auctions open 24 hours before departure and you'll only pay if you have the winning bid!
If you're travelling from Manchester or Liverpool up to Edinburgh or Glasgow, you'll be in for a treat with our TransPennine Kitchen West Coast menu.
Our breakfast menu is served until 11am with options such as our Regional Breakfast, Crumpets or why not treat yourself to our Belgian Waffles, served with a vibrant summer berry compote.
After 11am, you can indulge in our Belhaven Smoked Salmon Penne Pasta or have a Chorizo Sausage Roll, made fresh by Pie Demand in Carlisle.
If a tipple is on the cards, why not try our Lancaster Supernova Pale Ale, specially brewed for TransPennine Express by Lancaster Brewery. If you prefer a spirit, we've also got Mason's gin and vodka available in First Class with a range of mixers.
Taking a trip between Liverpool and Newcastle? Our TransPennine Kitchen Coast to Coast menu is available on selected services on your route*.
Breakfast until 11am includes Breakfast Rolls, Regional Breakfast and our delicious Belgian Waffles.
Whilst after 11am, expect classic snacks and hearty dishes such as our TransPennine Bacon Cheeseburger and our Steak & Newcastle Brown Ale Pie.
If you're in the mood for a cold one, try out our TransPennine Pale Ale, brewed for us by our friends at Northern Monk in Leeds or treat yourself to our gin or vodka, made by our partners in Yorkshire, Mason's.
*Our Coast to Coast menu is only available on trains operating with Liverpool and Newcastle as the Origin and the Destination.
Our Express Plus menu keeps you fuelled with complimentary snacks and drinks, perfect for shorter journeys or lighter appetites. Enjoy a freshly brewed tea or coffee, soft drinks and a variety of snacks to start your journey the right way.
Our onboard catering service typically operates Monday to Friday from 07:00-18:30 and Saturdays and Sundays from 09:00-18:30.
We'll always do our best to provide the advertised service on your journey however, there may be rare occasions when catering is unavailable due to operational reasons.
Our passenger's safety is our top priority and all allergen details are clearly displayed on our pre-packaged items either on the wrapper or on the can. On our plated meals, our allergen matrix details all the information you may need.

Yes! You can upgrade your booking easily on our mobile app or, if you prefer, head to the booking office before boarding and the friendly staff will be able to help you.
Yes! If you're travelling on a Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holiday, you can take advantage of our Weekend First offer. Depending on how far you're travelling, an upgrade to First Class on these days can cost between £10-£25 per person, one way. Simply find an unreserved seat in First Class and pay the conductor for your upgrade.
If you're travelling on a weekday, the fare will differ depending on your journey. If there are upgrades available, the conductor on board will be able to help you and explain the costs of upgrading for your specific journey.
Complimentary food is included with your First Class ticket on specific routes at specific times. The food and drink options available to you will depend on the type of train you're travelling on, the route you're taking and the time of day you're travelling.
If you're travelling on one of our Nova trains, you'll find First Class in Coach E.
If you're travelling on our Class 185 services, First Class with be located in either carriage C or carriage G. You can take a look at the seating plans of our trains here.
Yes! You can travel anywhere on board our trains with your pet – free of charge. You can bring up to two dogs on the train and they must be kept on their lead for the whole journey.
Smaller animals must be kept in a pet carrier.
We do ask that pets do not sit on tables or seats, this for the comfort of other passengers travelling with us.
Guide and hearing dogs are also welcome on board and staff will be happy to support you should you need assistance.
