The calendar shows planned engineering work impacting TransPennine Express services over the next 12 weeks.
If your journey is affected by engineering works, the calendar will show you any changes to train times, or if your service has been replaced by a rail replacement bus service.
We advise customers to always check their travel details before travelling to ensure the most up to date journey information has been received.

The Transpennine Route Upgrade is a multi-billion-pound programme of railway improvements happening in the North.

A summary of upcoming engineering work affecting services on the TransPennine Express network can be found below:
Due to engineering taking place on the West Coast Mainline between Liverpool/Manchester and Glasgow/Edinburgh via Preston and Carlisle, an amended timetable will apply for TransPennine Express services on weekends and Bank Holidays.
Please note: any replacement buses operating between Carlisle and Glasgow Central are operated by Avanti West Coast.
Saturday 31 May, Sunday 01 June and Sunday 08 June 2025: Between Carlisle and Scotland
Buses will replace train services between Carlisle and Glasgow Central (calling at Lockerbie and Motherwell) as well as between Carlisle and Edinburgh (calling at Lockerbie).
Sunday 06 July 2025: Between Carlisle and Edinburgh
Buses will replace trains between Carlisle and Edinburgh. TransPennine Express train services will operate between Manchester/Liverpool and Glasgow.
Network Rail is carrying out major improvement works between Huddersfield and Leeds from Weekdays from Monday 26 May to Friday 20 June (inclusive) as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade.
There will be no train services running to and from Dewsbury on these dates.
Train services will be diverted and running to an amended timetable and some parts of your journey might involve bus replacement services, meaning journey time may be extended. Further details on the changes to services can be found below.
RAIL SERVICES
Liverpool Lime Street – Manchester – Huddersfield – Leeds – Newcastle
This service will be diverted between Huddersfield and Leeds and will be running on an amended timetable. It will call additionally at Lea Green.
Manchester Airport – Huddersfield – Dewsbury – Redcar Central
This service will be diverted between Huddersfield and Leeds and will be running between Manchester Victoria and Redcar Central only. It will not be calling at Dewsbury, Manchester Oxford Road, Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Airport. Replacement bus services will be running in both directions between Huddersfield and Manchester Airport, as well as between Huddersfield/Leeds and Dewsbury (see details below, “Bus Services”).
Liverpool Lime Street – Huddersfield – Dewsbury – Leeds – Hull
This service will be running between Hull and Leeds only.
The TransPennine Express Liverpool Lime Street – Newcastle service will be running hourly for passengers who require travel between Liverpool Lime Street and Leeds.
Manchester Victoria – York – Scarborough
This service will be running between Scarborough and York only. Change at York for onward travel.
The TransPennine Express Manchester – Redcar Central service will be running hourly for passengers who require travel between Manchester Victoria and York.
Leeds – Huddersfield (local stopping)
This service will be replaced by a bus service calling at all stops (see details below, “Bus Services”).
Manchester Piccadilly – Huddersfield – Wakefield Kirkgate – York
This service will be running on an amended timetable and will call at Normanton every other hour instead of hourly.
Peak time additional services will run between Manchester Piccadilly and Huddersfield, but to an amended timetable.
BUS SERVICES
Huddersfield – Dewsbury – Leeds
A bus replacement will be running hourly in both. Estimated total journey time: 65 minutes.
Huddersfield – Dewsbury
A bus replacement will be running express in both directions between Huddersfield and Dewsbury hourly. Estimated total journey time: 35 minutes.
Huddersfield – Stockport – Manchester Airport
A bus replacement will be running hourly in both directions. Estimated total journey tine: 85 minutes.
Huddersfield – Deighton – Mirfield – Ravensthorpe – Dewsbury – Batley – Morley – Cottingley - Leeds
A bus replacement service will be running hourly in both directions. Estimated total journey time: 90 minutes.
Halifax – Brighouse – Mirfield – Dewsbury – Batley – Morley – Leeds
A bus replacement service will be running hourly in both directions. Estimated total journey time: 85 minutes. Please note: This rail replacement bus service will be operated by Northern Trains.
There will be no trains between Cleethorpes and Scunthorpe
Replacement buses will be in operation between Cleethorpes and Scunthorpe in both directions, calling at Grimsby Town, Habrough and Barnetby.
Customers will need to change at Scunthorpe for onward connections and TransPennine Express train services towards Doncaster, Sheffield, Manchester and Liverpool

Liverpool Lime Street – Manchester – Huddersfield – Dewsbury – Hull
This service will be split in two and will be running between Liverpool – Huddersfield and between Dewsbury - Hull only on an amended timetable.
The Liverpool leg of the service will be calling additionally at Newton-le-Willows and the Hull leg of the service will be calling additionally at Batley, Morley and Cottingley.
Replacement bus services will be running in both directions between Dewsbury and Huddersfield for onward travel (see details below, “Bus Services”).
Manchester Victoria – Scarborough
This service will only run between York and Scarborough. Change at York for onward travel.
Huddersfield - Leeds (local stopping)
This service will not run. Train services will run between Dewsbury and York, calling at Batley, Morley and Cottingley only.
The Hull – Dewsbury services will also be calling additionally at Batley, Morley and Cottingley for the duration of the engineering work.
A bus replacement service will be in place for travel to and from Deighton, Mirfield, Ravensthorpe, Wakefield Kirkgate (see details below, “Bus Services”).
Manchester Piccadilly – Huddersfield – Wakefield Kirkgate – York
This service will be split and run on an amended timetable between Manchester Airport – Manchester Piccadilly – Manchester Victoria – Stalybridge – Huddersfield (hourly), along with Wakefield Kirkgate – York via Castleford (hourly).
Replacement bus services will be available for travel between Huddersfield and Wakefield Kirkgate, calling at Deighton, Mirfield, Ravensthorpe and Dewsbury (see details below, “Bus Services”).
Manchester Piccadilly – Huddersfield (local stopping, peak time additional services)
This service will not run.
ADDITIONAL TRAIN SERVICES:
To support Northern in strengthening services between Leeds – Halifax – Rochdale – Manchester Victoria during this engineering possession, TransPennine Express will be running the following additional services in place of Northern.
Leeds – York (local stopping) (SATURDAY 31 MAY AND SUNDAY 1 JUNE ONLY)
TransPennine Express will be operating the local stopping service between Leeds and York. It will be calling at Cross Gates, Garforth, East Garforth and Micklefield.
Manchester Victoria – Huddersfield (local stopping) (SATURDAYS 7/14 ONLY)
TransPennine Express will be operating a local stopping service on the Calder Valley line between Manchester Victoria and Huddersfield. It will be calling at Rochdale, Smithy Bridge, Littleborough, Walsden, Todmorden, Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd, Sowerby Bridge, Brighouse.
Manchester Victoria – Huddersfield (local stopping) (SUNDAYS 8/15 JUNE ONLY)
TransPennine Express will be operating a local stopping service on the Calder Valley line between Manchester Victoria and Huddersfield. It will be calling at Rochdale, Todmorden, Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd, Sowerby Bridge, Brighouse.
BUS SERVICES
Huddersfield – Leeds
A bus replacement will be running express in both directions between Huddersfield and Leeds up to every 30 minutes. Estimated total journey time: 50 minutes.
Huddersfield – Dewsbury
A bus replacement will be running express in both directions between Huddersfield and Dewsbury hourly. Estimated total journey time: 35 minutes.
Huddersfield – Deighton – Mirfield – Ravensthorpe – Dewsbury – Wakefield Kirkgate
A bus replacement service will be running hourly in both directions. Estimated total journey time: 60 minutes.
Buses will replace trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield alternating to a train every hour
TransPennine Express services will operate between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Oxford Road, Doncaster to Cleethorpes and Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield (Alternating between train and rail replacement bus every hour)
Amended timetables will be in operation.
Customers will need to change at Manchester Piccadilly for onward connections towards Liverpool. Customers will also need to change at Doncaster for connections towards Sheffield.
Customers travelling between Sheffield and Doncaster and Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport should use other train operators.

Sundays 22 and 29 June ONLY: This service will be running on an amended timetable and will be calling additionally at Stalybridge. It will be diverted between Leeds and York, increasing journey time.
Liverpool Lime Street – Manchester – Huddersfield – Dewsbury – Hull
This service will start and terminate at Leeds instead of Liverpool Lime Street and will be running two-hourly instead of hourly. Change at Leeds for onward travel.
PLEASE NOTE: TransPennine Express will still be operating a 20:04 service from Hull to Manchester Victoria and a 21:35 service from Hull to Manchester Piccadilly.
Manchester Victoria – Scarborough
This service will only run between York and Scarborough. Change at York for onward travel.
Manchester Piccadilly – Huddersfield – Wakefield Kirkgate – York
Saturdays only: This service will not be calling at Normanton. For travel to and from Normanton, please use Northern Trains services.
Sundays only: This service will be calling at Normanton every other hour instead of hourly.

Background Information:
This work is part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) project. The TRU is a transformative, multi-billion pound railway programme that will better connect passengers in the North between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York. TRU will transform the Transpennine main line into a high-performing, reliable railway, bringing more frequent, more reliable, faster, greener trains.
During this week, major improvement works will take place which will include track renewal and drainage improvements.

TransPennine Express operates a regular service which connects Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Victoria in both directions but this may not always be available due to service disruption or planned engineering work which is essential to maintaining the railway.
Please allow plenty of time to travel and make connections onto train services at other stations.
