If you have a disability that makes travelling difficult, you may be able to get a Disabled Persons Railcard and save 1/3 on all train travel – including journeys on the TransPennine Express network across the North of England and Scotland.
We offer assistance on board our trains and at stations to help you get to your destination safely and comfortably, and you can even take advantage of additional deals and offers to get the most out of your trip.
If you have a Disabled Persons Railcard, it’s not just you who can save money on your train travel. If you travel with a friend or relative, they could also save 1/3 on their journey anywhere in the country and at any time of day.
As well as discounts on train tickets, the Disabled Persons Railcard also comes with savings and discounts on a range of events, days out and experiences.
If you’re planning to eat out when you visit a TransPennine Express destination, you could take advantage of the Disabled Persons Railcard and tastecard combined offer, which gives you two free months of tastecard membership and 50% off food or 2 for 1 deals at thousands of restaurants.
You can also save 20% off Virgin Experience Days, which covers everything from spa days to football stadium tours.
If you’re planning to stay somewhere like Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Edinburgh, or anywhere else on the TransPennine Network, you could also take advantage of discounted accommodation with deals through Hoseasons Parks and Lodges, Haven Holidays, or Cottages.com.
You can get a Disabled Persons Railcard if you have a visual or hearing impairment, epilepsy or receive a disability-related benefit such as Personal Independence Payments (PIP), Adult Disability Payment (ADP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Child Disability Payment (CDP), Attendance Allowance, Severe Disablement Allowance or Pension Age Disability Payment (PADP).
People who get a War Pensioner’s Mobility Supplement, a War or Service Disablement Pensions for 80% or more disability can also qualify for a Disabled Persons Railcard.
If you buy or lease a vehicle through the Motability scheme you can also apply for a disability railcard.
If you have a Disabled Persons Railcard, you can save 1/3 on train tickets at any time or day – there are no restrictions. Not all tickets are subject to this discount though. For example, the Disabled Railcard discount is applicable to anytime, off peak and advance fares but can not be used towards a discount against season tickets.
This means whether you’re travelling for work during the week or going away on a city break for the weekend, you can take advantage of cheaper train tickets if you’re a disabled railcard-holder. And if you’re travelling with a companion, they get 1/3 discount off their ticket too!
You can get the discount on adult train fares for travel on the National Rail network across Great Britain. This includes the TransPennine Express rail network, which goes to popular destinations across the North and in Scotland such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, and Durham.

A Disabled Persons Railcard costs ÂŁ20 for one year or ÂŁ54 for three years.
You can buy a Disabled Persons Railcard online at www.disabledpersons-railcard.co.uk. Simply select Apply Now and follow the on-screen instructions for a new application or you can download the forms and submit them by post.
When you’re applying online or by post for your railcard, make sure you allow enough time for it to be sent to you via post before your first journey.
Yes, you need to apply for a Disabled Persons Railcard online or by post.
As well as completing the relevant forms you’ll need to provide proof of your eligibility for the railcard, such as a copy of your award letter for your disability-related benefits, a Social Service stamp on your form, or your Exemption Certificate for epilepsy medication.
You can easily renew your Disabled Persons Railcard by applying for renewal by post.
Remember to give yourself enough time for your replacement Railcard to arrive in the post if you’re planning any trips shortly after your Railcard expires.
If you’ve lost your Disabled Persons Railcard, or it’s been damaged or stolen, you can request a replacement railcard online or you can contact the Disabled Persons Railcard Office.
To replace a lost or damaged disabled adult railcard, you’ll have to pay a £5 administration fee for a one-year railcard or £10 for a three-year railcard. If you have a crime reference number for a stolen railcard, you can get a free replacement.
If you don’t qualify for a Disabled Persons Railcard, you might still be able to save on your train travel if you’re eligible for another Railcard available that may help you save money on your train tickets. Have a look at the terms and conditions of the 16-25 Railcard, Two Together Railcard, Family & Friends Railcard or Senior Railcard to see if you can get cheap train tickets.
If you’re aged between 16 and 25, or you’re over 25 and in full time education, you can save at least 1/3 on train travel with this railcard.
If you’re 60 or older you can make great savings on your train travel and days out with a Senior Railcard.
If you regularly travel with the same person for work or pleasure, you could save money on your trips with a Two Together Railcard.
Save money with this railcard if you regularly travel with family and friends.
