On the train

Current travel advice

During your journey by train please follow this guidance

  • Please wear a face covering so that your nose and mouth are covered. Government advice on face coverings.
  • Carry anti-viral hand sanitiser gel and always wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and hot water before and after travel. TransPennine Express will not be able to provide hand sanitiser on board our trains or at our stations.
  • Please keep your distance where possible.
  • To comply with social distancing rules, we will be introducing green and red labels on our trains to indicate where you can and cannot sit. But please note it will not be possible to socially distance at all points throughout a journey so please keep your distance wherever possible
  • We will be unable to honour seat reservations until further notice, due to social distancing measures. Customers should find an available seat marked as “green”. This applies to all ticket types. Customers will still be able to buy Advance tickets, subject to limited availability. However these don’t come with a specific seat reservation.

  • Due to the social distancing measure in place please allow extra time to make your journey
  • Although our colleagues at stations and onboard will be there to guide you we cannot enforce the social distancing measures so please be mindful of fellow travellers and if the service you are trying to board is busy please consider taking an earlier or later train
  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell where possible
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue, or your sleeve if you don’t have a tissue, when you cough or sneeze, do not use your hands
  • Put used tissues in a bin straight away and wash your hands for 20 seconds afterwards
  • Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

If you are on one of our trains and there is no soap available, or if the bins are full, please contact a member of TPE staff on board, or via Twitter or WhatsApp, so our cleaning teams can address this.

If you have travelled abroad in the past 14 days, check the advice for travellers on the NHS website. If you think you have come into close contact with someone who has Covid-19 or are showing symptoms you should call NHS 111.
