If you’re looking for a spellbinding holiday experience in Manchester, look no further than the Christmas light trail at Dunham Massey. Now in its eighth year, this historic estate will once again be transformed into a sparkling winter wonderland for 2024. The gardens, moat and parkland will all be illuminated by twinkling lights and accompanied by seasonal music for a truly atmospheric experience. The park’s lake will house colourful creations that will reflect across the glistening surface and new for this year, there’ll be a star-filled tunnel – the perfect spot for a family photo. Along the trail, you can indulge in sweet treats such as hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows, and there’s also a chance to meet Father Christmas himself.

Located in Newcastle’s oldest city park, Northern Lights is not to be missed. If you’re on the lookout for the best Christmas light trails in Scotland, you absolutely cannot miss Christmas at the Botanics in Edinburgh! The Royal Botanic Gardens transforms into a winter wonderland with enchanting flickering candles, mesmerising glowing tunnels and a captivating fire garden. And guess what? This year, they’ve added ‘Firework Trees’ to the trail that shoot colourful bursts of light through the branches. That’s not all. Be sure your little ones keep their eyes peeled for Santa – they may just catch a glimpse of him along the way.

For the best dog-friendly Christmas lights for 2024, check out AGLOW, which takes place at Auckland Palace in Bishop Auckland. Known as one of the biggest Christmas light trails in the UK, AGLOW stretches over 1.5 miles through the spectacular grounds of Auckland Castle. Prepare to be amazed by the 100-meter-long outdoor light tunnel, the impressive 30-meter-tall Christmas tree and the 22 beautifully unique light displays across the trail. And you don’t need to worry about leaving your furry companions at home for this one. Located in the heart of Cheshire, just eight miles from Manchester Airport, you’ll find a glittering Christmas adventure at Tatton Park. The Glittering Trail is one of the main attractions, featuring stunning installations, illuminated puppets and costumed characters that bring the stories to life. As you wander the trail, you can treat yourself to delicious festive snacks such as marshmallows, waffles and mini pancakes. And don’t miss the Yuletide Gathering, where fire jugglers, festive folk music and mulled wine await!

Step into a captivating winter wonderland at RHS Bridgewater Glow in Salford, Greater Manchester. The striking, illuminated trail winds through the beautiful RHS gardens, where you’ll find sparkling snowflakes, star arches and mesmerising tunnels. This year, you can also marvel at the giant petunias that spring to life in Old Frame Yard, and the interactive “A Cry For Help” project, featuring amazing insect sculptures created to shed light on our declining insect population. Winter Lights at The Alnwick Garden is back for 2024 and better than ever. Once you’ve completed the trail, kids will have the chance to meet Father Christmas in Lilidorei, along with Santa’s reindeer and the elves. When it comes to food and drinks, you can expect to find everything from mulled wine and hot chocolate to festive snacks from local food producers. As you stroll through the castle grounds, you’ll be taken on a magical journey through Edinburgh’s history, encountering mythical creatures and immersive installations.
