Best for: Fancy dining without the fine dining prices
Where: 100 Old Hall Street, Liverpool L3 9QJ
NORD is all about Northern hospitality and heritage, friendly and engaging service and local food and drink. Executive Chef, Daniel Heffy, is Liverpool born and bred and defines his style of cooking as ‘Travelled British’. There’s a nod to his classic local roots and some time spent in Scandinavia.
It opened in 2023 and quickly gained a big following in the city. There’s a new menu for 2024 launching in mid-January, but favourites from 2023 included the Crab salad and Fazzoletti pasta. You don’t want to miss the carefully crafted cocktail menu either. The Sunday Roast is epic too.
Best for: Traditional Thai street food
Where: 40 Castle Street, Liverpool L2 7LA / 5-7 Fleet Street, Liverpool, L1 4AR
Spice Thai made a name for itself and got a bit of a cult following during its time at the Baltic Market. And in 2023, it opened up its first restaurant on Castle Street and a second on Fleet Street in 2023.
There’s plenty of classic dishes like Panang and Massaman curry, but its famed for its Weeping Tiger Steak – a marinated sirloin served with homemade Jaew sauce. It’s spicy and delicious.
Best for: Latin American-inspired brunch
Where: 56-60 Mount Pleasant, Liverpool, L3 5SD
Pronounced “home” this quirky café opened its doors in January 2023. It’s an all-day restaurant, coffee and cocktail bar targeting people that love travelling. Opened by hotel brand Selina, HOWM is a little fancy but a lot of fun too.
It’s the kind of place where you meet friends for brunch or lunch, get some work done or simply enjoy the delicious food based on local cuisine and delicacies from around the world. The chain had plenty of success in North and South America, with this its first restaurant in the UK. Favourite dishes include huevos rancheros (eggs with salsa, and tortillas) and lamb arepas. All day cocktails are perfect for weekends with a sore head or to get the party started.
Best for: Classic Italian grub
Where: 30 Richmond St, Liverpool L1 1EF
Another addition to the city’s dining scene in 2023, Hey Farina has quickly become one of the best Italian restaurants in Liverpool. It’s based in Williamson Square and is another addition to the Liverpool’s growing ‘Italian Quarter’.
It takes its name from farina flour, which is used to craft all manner of delicious Italian treats from paninis and pasta to focaccia.

Doogles opened its fourth location in Liverpool in 2023 at Mann Island. With coffee and a donut for around £5 you can’t go wrong. Plus, the new location promises some fantastic views of Albert Dock and beyond. The caramel custard donuts are a thing of beauty!
Best for: Environmentally friendly fayre
Where: 7 Lime St, Liverpool L11RD
Stoke is one of the best restaurants near Liverpool Lime Street Station and a great addition to the city’s dining scene in 2023. Located inside the Grade II listed Radisson RED Hotel, the modern barbeque restaurant has a menu featuring farm to table foods that are both hearty and sustainable. We love the grass fed sirloin and the sustainable seafood dishes like the seabass.
Best for: Health and wellbeing
Where: Old Hall Street, Liverpool
Set to open its doors in January 2024, Pomegranate is part juice bar part restaurant and it’s all about health and wellness. The food is good for both your body and mind – it’s not exclusively vegan but expect some plant-based dishes to rival the best vegan restaurants in Liverpool.
The smoothies, juices and fruit bowls are set to be delicious, whilst added ingredients like bee pollen, ashwagandha drops, black seed oil and hemp powder will all help with your health and wellbeing.
