Purchase yours now.
To get yours, you’ll need:
• A valid passport or UK driving licence
• A digital passport-style photo, saved to your tablet, smartphone or computer
• A debit or credit card
• The Railcard app
You can use it when purchasing most standard class rail tickets for travel around the UK. It will be valid for one year from the date you bought it.
If you plan to use it for journeys between 04.30 and 10.00 on weekdays, you will have to pay a minimum fare of £12 before you receive any discount. Any weekday journeys that start after 10.00 or anytime at weekends and Bank Holidays will receive the full discount.
Tickets must be purchased before travel in order to receive the discount.
For regular weekday travel at peak times, the best way to save on fares may be to purchase a season ticket. The Railcard won’t secure you a discount on a season ticket, however.
You can use your Railcard to purchase tickets for travel at any time at the weekend or on a public holiday and won’t be subject to the £12 minimum fare.
This is the first digital-only Railcard. It means once you purchase it online it will be downloaded to the Railcard app on your smartphone. The real benefit of this is that as soon as you’ve paid for it and downloaded it you can begin to enjoy 1/3 off train travel, without having to wait for it in the post.
This also ensures that you won’t have to deal with the situation of losing a paper Railcard and having to reapply for it.
If you lose your smartphone or it runs out of battery while you are travelling you can swap your Railcard to an app on another mobile device. This could be a friend’s smartphone when travelling together, or a replacement smartphone for the one you’ve lost.
The Railcard is available for anyone aged between 26 and 30. You’re eligible for one any time before your 31st birthday.
You can get one immediately. All you need to do is apply online and download the Railcard app. You’ll then be able to enjoy cheaper train travel straightaway against a range of fares including off peak, anytime and advanced purchase tickets.
