At TransPennine Express our aim is to continue to build an inclusive culture and our values are central to this, especially being “be yourself” and “pull together”. Working together we can build a better future for our colleagues and customers. Our colleagues are from all walks of life with varied personal experiences and career journeys into rail.
TPE has almost 2,500 people across the business and partners in the North of England and into Scotland. The majority of these are in service delivery roles, with 1,680 employed by TPE itself.
This team represents a diverse range of people from different parts of the North of England and Scotland, different backgrounds, ages, genders, ethnicities, sexual orientations, abilities, and religions.
TransPennine Express is celebrating Pride throughout the summer. Starting with York Pride on Saturday 1st June, colleagues from LNER and TransPennine Express will join together in a show of unity to celebrate the start of Pride Month.
TPE will continue to support other Pride events across the network throughout the summer.
As part of TransPennine Express Week of Inclusion earlier this year, TPE were delighted to announce a partnership with The Proud Trust, an LGBT+ youth charity empowering young people to be proud of who they are.
The Proud Trust delivers youth work and one-to-one support across Greater Manchester. The charity also runs a national training and inclusion programme for schools, Proud Connections Live Chat, and manages Manchester’s LGBT+ Centre, The Proud Place.
Throughout this summer, we are supporting The Proud Trust in their goal to raise £78,000 towards the vital work they do with LGBT+ young people. One hour of support costs £52, so we are helping the charity to raise 1500 hours of support for LGBT+ young people.
With one hour, The Proud Trust can support a young person who needs advice about coming out to their friends, via its digital live chat service, Proud Connections. One hour mentoring can support a young person towards their goals which could include accessing educations or employment, planning for their future or finding community.

On Monday 22 January 2024, TransPennine Express unveiled its ‘unity’ train to kickstart its first ever ‘TPE Week of Inclusion’ and partnership with The Proud Trust.
During TPE Week of Inclusion, TransPennine Express will celebrate diversity and embrace individuality to unite communities.
As part of the week’s activities, TPE are celebrating employees who have their own unique story to share.
Hans Ekonje, Driver Instructor at Manchester Piccadilly, Georgina Young, Regional Customer Experience Manager, Kerri-Anne Scott, Conductor at Preston, Becky Woodhead, Conductor at Cleethorpes and Luke Gardner, Timetable Development and Delivery Manager have all shared their individual stories.
