With music heritage like The Beatles and The Cavern Club it’s no surprise that Scousers rate their live music scene the best. However, there’s plenty more to the city than just the Fab Four, LEAF hold regular nights with new bands in a relaxed atmosphere.
But there’s more to music in the north than Liverpool’s favourite sons. A trip to Manc isn’t complete without at least one gig at The Deaf institute and you’d be an absolute skyrocket to miss Stereo in Glasgow.
We all know the Geordies love a night out on the toon so of course, they have voted their town as having the best nightlife. From Livello and Perdu to The Cut and Digital, there’s something to suit all tastes and styles.
Whatever you want from your night, you’ll find it on the banks of the Tyne.
Mancunians love to shop, or so they tell us. 73% of them rate the city for its choice of shopping. From Spinningfields to the Trafford Centre and The Arndale to Afflecks, there’s something to suit all budgets and styles.
Closely following are Leeds and Liverpool, living up to their glamorous, fashion-focused reputation

To find out which city on our network was most proud and why we asked over 2000 people from Edinburgh, Glasgow, York, Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool, Sheffield, Scarborough, Leeds and Hull why they loved their city.
The results are in and we can confirm that it’s definitely better up north. We’ve summed up the results below, with handy tips from the locals on the best places to go for food, drink, music and a great day out.
Edinburgh get this title with 83% of residents telling us they’re proud to live in the Scots capital.
With a top-rated fine dining scene, plenty of bars and pubs and an array of cultural attractions it’s easy to see why. Following up behind is our other surveyed Scottish city, Glasgow, 84% of them are proud to call it home.
With plenty of culture, a thriving music and nightlife scene it’s no wonder. Third up are York, 76% proudly told us this was their city, with plenty of history and dining options to be proud of.
Our longest-serving residents can be found in Glasgow and Liverpool. 75% of people in Glasgow and 73% in Liverpool have lived there for over 20 years! They know their cities, love them and don’t need to be anywhere else.
Most of our Edinburgh and York residents have only lived in their cities for under 4 years. As most of them are under 35 we suspect they went to uni and loved it so much that they stayed. This proves that you can still be proud as punch of your city, regardless of when it became your home
